Tharwa Meetings to plan our way forward
Thanks for reading this. If you are here then you are interested in stopping this proposal. This website has been established by representatives from the Tharwa School Board and Tharwa P & C Committee, with the assistance and support of others within the Tharwa school community.
Over the next few days we are trying to gather as much information as possible about the consultation process and the task ahead of us. There will be a number of information meetings to get people up to speed. The proposed timings are as follows.
Thursday 8 evening - School Board Meeting
Tuesday 13 after school - Primary P and C Executive Committee meeting, together with a Preschool P and C representative
Tuesday 13 Evening (after Yoga) - Whole school and community meeting to get everyone interested up to speed. This will be in the Tharwa Hall at 7:30pm. Agenda to follow.
If anyone has more information or questions email us through the contact us form.
A priority is to set up effective communications between everyone interested, so we don’t leave anyone out. This is vitally important to the future of our community. We will love to see you there.

Come along and support our community by sharing your ideas and offering your support in any way you can. The ball is already rolling with and the media is onboard. The more ideas and directions we can go in the better, let’s do it in an organised and united way. Let’s use all our resources together to SAVE THARWA SCHOOL! We need to be organised and share our information, ideas, resources, manpower in an effective way. Whatever you’ve got to give, we’d love to see you there!

At the meeting for Preschool sector today 7th June, I asked if there
was scope for government representatives, preferably one of the ones
who will ultimately make the final decision, to actually come out and
visit the schools listed as proposed closures. I was told in response
by the ACT Director of Schools, Joanne Howard that if the parents
requested this of the government then they would do so under the
guidelines of consultative process, and that either herself or Angela
Anderson-Director of Preschool Services (not a final desicion maker)
could be contacted to arrange such a visit.
I think this would be a good strategy to adopt as the people who made
the proposal up have not actually seen with their own eyes what is
going on ‘out here’.
Angela Andersen is a good example of someone to contact and get out
here- she came for the first time today-wednesday 7th June- and was
very positive about the links Tharwa has between Primary and Preschool.
The Minister and cabinet could equally be invited to attend a morning
tea and session at Tharwa School to ironically see in action NOW a
working model of what they are proposing to try to create ie. “seamless
transitions” across the schooling years, especially the early childhood
years.
