Tharwa Fair - May 21st 2006
The Tharwa Fair, an annual fund-raising event held by the Tharwa Primary and Pre School P&C Committees, is well known throughout Canberra. Characterised by a country fair atmosphere, the Tharwa Fair is a great family day out with country craft stalls, a patting paddock, sheep shearing, country entertainment, a monster raffle, chocolate wheel and healthy food and drinks. Plenty of fun and excitement for young and old!
The 2006 Tharwa Fair followed on from previous Fairs as another fantastic and successful event. With an estimated more than 2,000 visitors through our rustic little gate, the 2006 Fair raised more than our goal figure. Money raised will go towards catering for the educational experiences of the Tharwa children. The day started out with the chocolate wheel spinning every 15 minutes, and the prizes were going fast! Local country bands entertained the crowds as children had their faces painted, visitors ate our BBQ snags and Jimmee and Jackie kept the freshly squeezed juice flowing. Devonshire teas and delicious lamingtons were served by Tharwa parents while local craftsmen demonstrated their art and skills. In the afternoon it was down to the Tharwa Bridge to watch the Annual Tharwa Duck Race - more than 800 rubber ducks raised down the Murrumbidgee to the waves of the crowd.
Much thanks to the many businesses who supported this event through donation of prizes, equipment and time. Thanks to all out store holders who participated in the event, the parents and community members of Tharwa who worked hard to make this event the success it was, and the broader ACT community who came along for fun on the day! We look forward to an even bigger and better Tharwa Fair in 2007!
